Winemaking

Quinta do Vallado has carefully maintained 16 hectars of old vineyards for more than 100 years. These vineyards host over 40 grape varieties, with a predominance of Tinta Roriz, Tinta Amarela and Touriga Franca. These vines have a very low yield (500g/plant), producing grapes of remarkable quality. The grapes from old vineyards (over 100 years old) underwent fermentation in small 3 ton stainless steel vats, with controlled temperature and remontage. The grapes were stored in stainless steel tanks for the duration of the malolactic fermentation and were afterwards racked to 225 litre new French Allier Oak barriques for 20 months.

Tasting Notes

Very concentrated, with balsamic oak notes, fig, black plum aromas and tobacco. Full bodied, firm, mature and silky tannins. Mineral notes with a very elegant, persistent and complex finish.
